Veterinary Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for horses and dogs involves combining movement analysis with knowledge of the neuro-musculoskeletal system (nerves, skeleton and muscles) in order to identify and treat problems. We work alongside veterinary diagnoses and play a large role in rehabilitation.

Assessment involves talking to the owner about the problems, watching the animal move and then carrying out a physical examination. Combining all of the information gathered from the assessment then guides the correct course of treatment.

There are many different treatment techniques available to a physiotherapist. ‘Hands-on‘ treatment to address muscle or joints, electrotherapy such as ultrasound or electrical muscle stimulation, sensory stimulation work and specific active exercises are just some of the techniques we use. All these can be used alongside other rehabilitation methods such as hydrotherapy and some can be successfully used in a hydrotherapy pool or underwater treadmill.
